LAST Sunday saw more than 30 crews tackle the Multi-venue Production Car Autotest which replaced the Devil's Own Classic Rally run by Kirkby Lonsdale Motor Club.
After little practice due to the lack of competition this year, most of the drivers including Geoff Hall and David Marsden were complaining about being out of practice.
Suitably fortified by Lunch and have got into the right frame of mind, the competition commenced with another four tests at Truckhaven, by now in the pouring rain.
Whether it was the rain or Lunch no-one knows but most of the drivers attacked the afternoon tests with their usual vigor, and felt better about the day having returned to Heaves and Afternoon Tea.
Dave Marsden/Mike Garstang in the Cortina GT, rallied to finish second in class and fifth overall, with the trusty Austin 10 of Ian Graham finishing first in class after amazing onlookers with the rolling action of the seventy year old car.
Nether Kellet's Geoff Hall/Paul Bosdet in the Turquoise Mini finished in first place with Ian Knowles first expert / second overall in his Escort Mk 1 and best Novice went to Stuart Kellit/Howard Turner in another Mini Cooper who also finished inside the top ten.
The Concourse Award for the best turned out car at scrutineering went to John Wood from Bolton-le-Sands in his 1566 Mini Cooper.
