YOUNG Cricket fans were bowled over by the chance to learn from the experts, in a bid to boost the standard of the game at all levels.
A group of 44 youngsters aged 8-14 took to the field at Radcliffe Cricket Club this week, to learn the basics of bowling, batting and fielding.
In an effort to break down sporting boundaries, girls as well as boys were invited to take part in the course, the third to be organised by staff from the Bury Sports Development Unit this summer.
And player coaches Steve Dublin from Bury Cricket Club, Martin Hegg of Stand Cricket Club and Martin Kay from Bolton Road Cricket Club also pitched in to offer their tips.
Over the summer holidays courses are being held for a week at different cricket grounds across the borough, with the aim of improving grass roots cricket.
Summer sports co-ordinator Rob Kennedy said: "What we're trying to do is to increase the skill levels in the game and encourage young people to play at their local clubs. It is something we're working very hard to achieve.
"If we can improve playing skills so that they can play at a club then hopefully they will be able to go on and play at county level."
The final course of the summer runs at Ramsbottom Cricket Club from August 28 to August 31 (1pm to 4pm) and costs £20. For more information contact Rob Kennedy on 253 6660.
