RAIN definitely did not stop play at the revamped Ainsworth Village Day.
It may have bucketed it down on Saturday (Aug 11) but villagers were determined to enjoy the first event to be held for three years.
"It went down a storm, considering the rain, and a lot of people commented that it was one of the best organised village days they had been to," said chief organiser Mr Les Martin.
Ainsworth Recreation Ground was throbbing with music and excitement and visitors were spoiled for choice as to what to do.
There was fortune-telling by Madam Savas, a hog roast, coconut shy, quad bikes, dancing, children's fancy dress, a fairground, a tug-o-war and pie eating contest and a New Orleans jazz band.
And pictured giving her stepfather Mr Tim Herod one in the eye and a good soaking into the bargain is Danielle Knight (10), of Broomfield Close, Ainsworth.
Ex-England and Bolton Wanderers footballer Tommy Banks opened the event which raised £2,500. The money will go to Christ Church Ainsworth School, Ainsworth Scholars Play Group and a fund for local good causes.
Mr Martin said: "The day was so excellent that we will definitely be making it an annual event once again. We are already planning to make next year's day even bigger and better because we hope to coincide it with the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations."
