POLICE in Colne are appealing for information in relation to an attempted burglary at the house of an elderly woman.
Two males were seen acting suspiciously at the junction of Windy Bank and High Street at around 2pm on Tuesday.
A short time later they walked through an unlocked back door of a house in High Street and tried to steal property.
The owner, a woman in her later 70s, discovered them and they ran off.
They were described as white, both wearing hats and scruffy clothing.
DC Andy Eddleston, of Colne CID, said: "This is a despicable crime targeted specifically at an elderly person.
"The pair had been seen in the area for several minutes before they went to the house, possibly eyeing up the job.
"If any member of the public saw anyone of this description on Tuesday in the town centre or in High Street we would like them to contact us on 01282 472445."
