A MAN whose wife died of cancer of the liver last year has raised an impressive £850 for Ward C1 at Whiston Hospital where she spent the final days of her life.
Dennis Lawrenson from Sutton presented the cheque to grateful ward manager, Janet Dudley and Dr Tappin, clinical director for medicine, following a successful fund-raising event at City Road Club in Windle on Friday July 13.
At the presentation Dennis thanked Janet and staff for the care and attention his wife Doreen received while she was in hospital and also thanked friends, family and everyone else who participated on the night.
He said: "I am taking this opportunity to say thank you to all those who participated and to all those who contributed prizes for the raffle, to Steve for his music and show, and to Mandi for the buffet and to Ricky and Darren for running the raffle. Even though this was also a get together for family and friends, the main theme was to raise funds for Ward C1 at Whiston Hospital."
And £37 was also raised at the end of the night, through a collection of loose change, which has been donated to the Romanian Orphans Appeal.
