JOBSEEKERS in St Helens should find it easier to look for work following the introduction of hi-tech Jobcentre terminals called Jobpoints.
The traditional rows of display boards with cards advertising local job vacancies have been replaced with electronic touch-screen terminals which have access to more than 400,000 jobs nationwide.
Users can now select from a user-friendly screen the type of work they are looking for, as well as the locations they are prepared to travel to. The Jobpoint then produces a list of jobs to match the jobseeker's requirements, any of which can be printed off with a full description.
Jobpoints are easy to use with simple, step-by-step instructions for the user to follow. For people operating them for the first time, staff at the College Street and Barrow House Jobcentres will demonstrate the latest in job search technology.
Having decided which vacancies they wish to apply for, jobseekers can discuss them with a member of staff. Alternatively, specially installed telephones will connect them directly to the vacancy call centre, Employment Service Direct.
Jobseekers can also telephone 0845 6060 234 from home and quote the job numbers they are interested in.
