FORMER restaurateur and club owner Roy Bennett has died, aged 61, after a long battle against illness.
Mr Bennett will be best remembered as proprietor of Sidroys restaurant and the Keg o' Kee club in Atherton.
He bought the nightclub and casino in 1964 after a spell in teaching following a journey around Europe. There he met his wife, Hazel, also known as Sid, and in 1970 the couple converted the casino premises to Sidroys club and in 1972 they opened the family restaurant there which was a popular eating out venue for quarter of a century. He sold the restaurant in 1991.
Known to many as Mr Sidroy, Roy owned the popular local restaurant, Sidroys, from the mid 1960s until 1991.
The funeral will be on Tuesday at Howe Bridge.
