ST HELENS North MP Dave Watts, has been appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to Transport Minister, John Spellar.
The Minister visited the North West recently to talk to local transport and council chiefs about their problems and plans for future investment. He was meeting council leaders to discuss improving the links in the town -- including the proposed Blackbrook bypass -- and possible economic transport schemes that could create hundreds of new jobs in St Helens and Newton.
Dave Watts said: "I believe that transport issues will dominate the political agenda over the next few years. The Government has a programme of investment in road, rail and airports and I am delighted that the Minister took the opportunity to visit the North West and that he found time to visit St Helens".
