STROKE victim Mary Turner has done a lot of good work to help The Swan at Bacup raise money for charity so yesterday the regulars decided it was her turn.
A family fun day was held at the Market Street pub to raise money towards buying Mary an electric mobility scooter. The organisers hope to have raised £1,000.
Attractions included a Punch and Judy show, a tug o' war, tombola, raffle and barbecue.
Music was supplied by landlord Terry Egan under his stage name Terry Swan and a five-piece band Notion with lead singer Andrew Whyment, the actor who plays Kirk in Coronation Street and 'Dodgy Darren' inThe Royle Family.
Mary, 64, who lives in the Rockcliffe area close to the pub said: "I'm overwhelmed. The scooter will open a whole new world for me."
In the last two years the former shoe and slipper worker has helped The Swan raise £1,158 for Pendlebury Children's Hospital and £1,000 for Rossendale Stroke Club.
Mr Egan said: "She is a lovely lady and one of our regulars. She lives only a short distance away often but has to come by taxi. A motorised scooter will be ideal and will help her with her shopping as well." Mary said: "I have sticks and callipers and have mobility problems. Although it is only a short distance a taxi ride costs me £2."
Mary has been visiting the pub for the last 12 years and enjoys playing darts and meeting her many friends. She added: "It will be a lot of help to me because my husband, Vincent, is not too well."
