DETECTIVES are appealing for information to try to trace two brightly dressed bag snatchers.
A couple in their late sixties were walking along Giles Street, Nelson, when two youths snatched the lady's black leatherette handbag.
Although she tried to cling on to the bag they managed to wrest it from her and run off towards Leeds Road.
The incident happened too quickly for the husband to intervene. His wife was not injured but was badly shaken by the incident.
Det Sgt Mike Collins said: "We are making inquiries in the area and are anxious to locate these offenders. It was distressing experience for the couple."
Stolen was the black handbag containing a peppered steak, lady's stockings, lottery tickets and a cigarette lighter.
The street robbery happened at 4.20pm on Saturday.
The thieves are aged 17/18. One has blond hair and was wearing a red coat and black trousers, the other, who has brown hair, was wearing an orange jumper and blue jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Collins at Nelson CID on 01282 472645 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
