THE cause of a blaze which wrecked a waste storage building in Balckburn, early today is being probed.
Fire crews were called to Neales waste management at Gorse Street, Blackburn at 2.10am.
Sub-officer Neil Ashworth, of Accrington Fire station, said: "We had to break into the building next door to gain access.
"All kinds of waste was stored in the building, stacked right to the roof.
"The fire was contained to the building, but there were concerns about the smoke affecting the nearby railway line. We warned the train drivers to be cautious.
"The building has been completely destroyed. We are investigating a possible electrical fire or a suspected break in but it is too early to say."
Health and safety environment manager Debbie Emmott was on the scene throughout the early hours to enure the area was safe for the 25 employees to work near.
Russell Grey, operations manager for Neales, said: "Hopefully work can go on although there may be a backlog of waste waiting to be collected from local businesses which should be resolved by tomorrow morning when we get a new routine in place."
