A RESIDENT at a Chorley nursing home killed himself in his room, an inquest heard.
Ninety years old Stanley Murray was found by a member of staff, with a plastic bag over his head.
He was a resident at Gillibrands nursing home, in Grosvenor Road, Chorley, at the time of his death in June.
A Preston inquest was told that he had had one or two health problems and
seemed to have lost interest in life. However, he had never spoken of possibly harming himself.
Night care assistant Mrs Geraldine Jackson, had woken up Mr Murray the night before, on June 13, when she took him a cup of tea. Nothing had been
seen in his demeanour or attitude that might have given cause for concern. Mrs Jackson checked on him at 3am and he was all right then. Then at 7.15am,
during a further check, she found him with a plastic bag over his head.
A post mortem examination showed that he died from asphyxia.
Coroner Mr Howard McCann said that, given the circumstances, he had to say that Mr Murray killed himself.
