COMMUNITY-PROUD residents of Woodnook, Accrington, braced the foul weather last week to brighten up their neighbourhood in a scheme they called "paint your walls".
The scheme was set up by community group Woodnook Forum for Action, a partnership between the public, private and voluntary sectors, after residents on Wilfred Street complained about the dilapidated state of their walls.
The industrious residents have already spent an afternoon clearing away rubbish from behind Wilfred Street, Augusta Street and Clement Street to spruce up the area.
And in the near future, the alley behind the three streets will be resurfaced thanks to an Accrington Area council grant.
Member of Woodnook forum Lisa Yates said: "Twelve of us painted the walls of about 12 properties and even though the weather was wet, we managed to enjoy ourselves.
"There is lots more paint available, so if there's enough interest, we might do the same thing again."
