MORE than 100 jobs could be under threat after the takeover of a Preston plastics firm by American company Tyco Plastics for around £50 milion.

The plastics division of Macfarlane, based at Walton Summit, Bamber Bridge, employs around 120 people. The firm produces polythene film, used to make carrier bags.

Macfarlane has been sold after the firm failed in its bid to buy rival British Polythene Industries last year. The unsuccessful bid prompted the company to begin a review, resulting in the sale.

Tyco Plastics, based in America, bought Macfarlane for around £50 million. The future of the jobs at the Preston firm is uncertain.
