PLANS for 80 new homes in a major city centre site look set to be given the go-ahead.

The former Pye Feed Mill and car park on Cable Street and Damside Street could be bulldozed to make way for a development of one and two bedroom flats by Persimmon Homes.

However, the application has drawn two letters of objection, including one from Mr Michael Jackson of Hest Bank, who claims the building would be too high, will intrude on the outlook of the adjacent Three Mariners pub and build on Lune Square, shown on older maps as a highway, should not be built on.

The city council's planning committee will meet on Tuesday and has been advised to give the approval its backing.
