A CORONER has warned of the dangers of experimenting with drugs.
His comments concluded a formal inquiry into the death of Bury man Martin Gold from a heroin overdose.
Although the 30-year-old injected what was described as a "recreational" dose of the drug, his tolerance level was too low to ensure he recovered.
The inquest heard how Mr Gold had a history of metal illness but there was no evidence to suggest he was an habitual drug user.
At the inquest in Bury on Wednesday (Aug 22), Mr Barrie Williams said: "Any warning about the dangers involved in drug taking, even if it saves just one life, is worth repeating."
The unemployed man's body was discovered in the bedroom of his home in Orchid Drive on May 16.
Recording a verdict of accidental death, Mr Williams said: "The deceased had injected a relatively small dose of heroin straight into his blood stream. It was a shock to his system whether he had not had the drug before or for some time and an amount often classed as a recreational dose caused his death."
