Dear Sir, It had to happen sooner or later, those in charge of Leigh's highways having succumbed to the scourge of "red mastic madness"--in the form of 100 metres of bus lane, which ends abruptly at start of Lord Street.
As no signs are currently in evidence banning cars from using the bus lane, motorist are doing the sensible thing and using the bus lane prior to turning left into Lord Street from the Atherton direction.
I have a strong suspicion though, that signs will eventually appear, notifying non-bus traffic they are banned from using the bus lanes. In this event, I fear serious accidents are inevitable at this major junction, with vehicles turning left toward Butts Bridge, directly across the path of fast-moving buses.
It is quite an achievement to create a potential accident black spot with an application of red road paint! Combined with the lamp standard that currently spouts out the corner of Leigh Road and Kirkwall Lane, to give unsuspecting cyclists a severe headache!! Its nice to see those in the highways department are taking road safety seriously.
