OFFICERS from Lancashire Constabulary's Motorway Unit will be targeting unroadworthy caravans from Friday, August 24, in a drive to improve safety on the county's motorways.
Sergeant Brian Roberts said: "To reduce accidents and delays we need to ensure that vehicles using the county's motorway network are in a safe condition. To enable us to do this we have set up a special safety check area at the Vehicle Inspectorate site at Cuerden at the end of the M65. It is a specially designed site for the purpose of examining and weighing vehicles and is located at the centre of the motorway intersection taking in the M61, M65 and the M6.
"This check point will be operating on Friday, August 24, Bank Holiday weekend, from 8am.
"The purpose of the initiative is to give police officers and staff from the Vehicle Inspectorate the opportunity to check that tyres, lights and brakes on vehicles are in full working order and that caravans are not dangerously overloaded."
