DEVELOPERS from Greenbank Partnerships Ltd, who have nurtured the Xanadu scheme from its infancy five years ago, admitted "surprise" at the decision.
Company director Chris Baybutt told the Journal: "Having ensured that as an integral part of The Xanadu Application, all relevant national and local planning policies and guidelines have been positively addressed. We note with surprise the recent decision relating to The Xanadu Scheme.
"We have not yet had sight of the full documentation relating to the decision, and until we have had the opportunity to read and consider the relevant reports, we are not in a position to comment further at this stage.
"Nevertheless, in view of our certain knowledge of the manifold benefits of such a scheme to the Wigan Area in general, and Leigh in particular, we intend to maintain a positive and pro-active attitude during our forthcoming deliberations."
