AN active pensioner who died after a fall in Burnley town centre had suffered a brain haemorrhage, an inquest opening heard.
Alice Stovold, 89, of Thornber Court, Burnley, died in Burnley General Hospital on Thursday, August 16.
A retired mill worker, Mrs Stovold used to go into Burnley town centre almost every day and have her lunch at the bus station cafe.
Her daughter, Jean Ann Forster, of Melville Street, Burnley, said her mother was able to walk without a stick.
Mrs Stovold had a history of angina and received treatment for blood pressure.
On August 13, Mrs Stovold was in the Market Square when she fell.
She was taken to Burnley General Hospital where she was in a coma and admitted to the surgical intensive care unit.
Mrs Forster said she had been told her mother slipped on steps coming down from the market hall.
East Lancs Coroner, David Smith, who adjourned the hearing, said a post mortem revealed Mrs Stovold died from a subdural haemorrhage.
