A PREGNANT mother has took her first step on the road to superstardom by winning more than £110,000 on former Spice Girl Mel B's hit TV show, 'This is My Moment.'
Helen Booth, 26, of Acre Avenue, Stacksteads stunned the studio and television audiences of the programme, screened on ITV at 8.15pm on Saturday, when she sang her favourite song, Tina Arena's 'I'm In Chains'.
But she almost didn't make the big date, for just 24 hours before the show she thought she was going into labour, but it turned out to be a false alarm.
A week earlier she had sung the same song down the telephone and beaten off 60,000 other callers to attend auditions at Granada studios in Manchester where she was then chosen by show producers as one of five contestants to compete in the live final.
The winner -- and prize money -- is determined by the number of phone votes received and the 221,005 callers for Helen netted her a total of £110,502.50. Helen is due to return to the studio for a winners' show.
Helen said: "This money will provide security for my family -- and we can buy a house with a garden for the children to play in."
For the time being Helen, husband Steve and their son Jack, three, are looking forward to the birth of the baby but a life in the spotlight could still be on the horizon.
Helen said: "It would be very nice to do singing as a career and earn money for something I love so I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for some offers."
