CLITHEROE were on the wrong end of an FA Cup upset as their early season form continues to baffle.
Dave Burgess men were left still looking for their first win of the season after crashing out of the prestigious competition in the extra preliminary round to the North East Counties Second Division side -- a team the NWCL Division One title hopefuls could and really should have beaten.
"The final scoreline wasn't really a fair reflection of the game," said a disappointed Burgess.
"We had so much of the game but we just didn't take our chances and in the end that is what cost us."
Clitheroe hit the woodwork four times but it was the visitors who went in at the interval in front having scored on the break.
Clitheroe's pressure finally paid off in the 69th minute when Chris Willingham scored with a fine angled drive from 20 yards.
The home side continued to press looking for the winner but with time running out Rossington broke clear to retake the lead.
With Clitheroe throwing everything at the visitors they were caught again in injury time.
"It wasn't a bad display and we are creating chances but we have to start taking them," said Burgess.
