PENDLE Sure Start's new community offices in Charles Street were the first stop-off during an educational visit to Nelson by Alan Whittaker, the county's Cabinet Member for Education and Young People.
Sure Start works with parents and toddlers to promote their physical, intellectual, social and emotional well-being to ensure they are ready to thrive when they start school.
Coun Whittaker was impressed with how the partnership aims to be at the heart of the communities that they serve.
He said: "This is an excellent example of a partnership between Lancashire County Council, the Borough Council, parents, and other local organisations to deliver real benefits to families in Nelson. The partnership has chosen to develop a series of satellite centres right in the heart of the local community which can only help parents with young families to access the excellent services they provide."
Coun Whittaker also visited Walton Lane Nursery School, where he had the opportunity to congratulate headteacher Audrey Wilson and her staff for their recent achievements with Beacon Status.
