GARDENER Derek Roscow was feeling "glad all over" at the Ramsbottom Horticultural Society summer show.
For 40 years Derek has been growing vegetables.
Over a similar period his brother Neville has been cultivating flowers and become a national gladioli champion and is recognised as one of the top growers in the country.
A few years ago Derek, of Walshaw, decided to try his hand at growing gladioli with the ambition of beating his brother.
Now he has made it, winning the trophy for best gladioli specimen at the show. "I have always wanted to beat him and now I have done it at our own Ramsbottom Show," said Derek.
Not that Neville, of Holcombe Brook, was complaining too much.
He added to his trophy collection with a number of wins including three in the gladioli section for best vase, most points and primulinus gladioli.
The show at the Civic Hall was a success with entries at 424 well up on last year although there were slightly fewer entrants.
