FUN-SEEKERS are being reminded about the gala that is being held on Sunday to celebrate the opening on a new safe play area for children in Darwen.
The event is being held at a patch of derelict land at the former disused water lodge, off Watery Lane, Darwen, which has been refurbished in a bid to keep youngsters entertained and out of trouble.
Members of the Lodgeside Trust Residents' Association, made up of residents from the Whitehall area of Darwen, have spent the last three years working with local children campaigning for the scheme to get the go-ahead and it was only made possible after council bosses chipped in with a cash donation.
The gala day is open to everybody and is to be packed full of activities throughout the day.
The fun starts from 11am on Sunday, September 2, and will continue all day.
Rita Billington, secretary of the trust, said: "We want anybody who wants to join in and have some fun to come along and help us celebrate.
"There will be loads going on for everybody to join in with."
