RUSSELL Brierley scored from the spot but Ramsbottom held on to the lead for just four minutes in the North West Counties First Division encounter against Woodley.
Both sides opened confidently with some good build-up play but the final ball often lacked quality.
The visitors had a good spell of pressure and busy midfielder Damian Ohandjarnian shot wide from a tight angle.
Rams keeper Damian Rooney then saved from Mike Norton and with Woodley continuing to press forward Norton headed over the bar.
Ramsbottom started to put their game together with debutant Jamie Wilson looking lively up front alongside Russell Brierley.
On 33 minutes a Woodley defender handled a Wilson cross and Brierley fired the Rams in front from the spot.
The lead lasted just four minutes with Woodley drawing level through Norton after Ramsbottom failed to defend a free kick.
On 61 minutes Brierley got in a terrific cross but Wilson, just a yard out, failed to convert. Just 10 minutes later Wilson was stretchered off with a leg injury.
In the final minute Woodley keeper Steve Morris made a great reaction save from David Yorke-Robinson's header.
RESULT: Woodley Sports...1 Ramsbottom...1
