WEST LANCASHIRE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO
TOTTINGTON UNITED...1
BARROW RANGERS...1
THE harsh reality of life in the West Lancs League conspired to haunt United in the last minute when Barrow, outplayed for most of the game, were given the benefit of an off side decision to equalise.
A further irony saw a last ditch attempt by keeper Lee McDonagh to save the day, thwarted by a mishit shot, when a clean strike would have surely ended in his arms.
United had bossed the game from the off, had a goal disallowed for a foul as the keeper, who had stayed mysteriously stuck to the ground, but once again failed to turn their superiority into goals.
Striker Kay, fresh from a two goal salvo midweek at Lytham, was obviously out of sorts and must have thought it was not his day when with the second half midway through, he chipped the keeper only to see his effort bounce off the bar, minutes later he met a Briggs cross perfectly, but his downward header passed inches wide. With ten minutes to go Tottington went ahead when Kay finally rifled home from twenty yards.
The finale when woefully wrong for United, and Barrow escaped with a point, but in United's case it was two points lost.
Lytham St Annes 4, Tottington Utd 2 (Kay 2); Burnley United 2, Tottington Utd Res 1 (Cunliffe)
Tomorrow United entertain top of the table Coppall United at St Annes. Fields kick off 3pm. They are hoping the injury list shortens and look forward to its return of Dickinson and Berry to the squad. The Reserves have no game.
