LAST Friday, the lecturers' union, NATFHE, meeting at Nelson and Colne College, voted unanimously to send a message of condolence to the family and many friends of Nassar Ahmed, the asylum seeker and student at the college who killed himself last week.
We condemn the Government's policy on asylum. The dispersal scheme which forces people to be moved around the country against their will, the voucher system which stigmatises people and the general hostility of both government and media have led to a general feeling of despair among asylum seekers.
We urge people to give asylum seekers a warm welcome and as much support as possible.
NATFHE is affiliated to the Anti-Nazi League and we are supporting the leafleting in Burnley tomorrowon September 1.
The Nazis are vicious and divisive and brought death and destruction to millions of people. There is no place for them in Lancashire or anywhere else.
JAN PLAYFER, chairman, Nelson and Colne NATFHE branch.
