I WISH I could have been a Fury fan first time round -- I would have been screaming with the best of them!
Instead I'll have to settle for "rediscovering" Billy's music through a solid tribute by Stars In Their Eyes discovery Colin Gold, backed by Billy's original, and talented, Tornados.
The show has a simple format -- short monologues telling Billy's life story, mixed in with plenty of his hits. But it's a winning formula, which brought a standing ovation from a devoted audience. It was also well-paced and near enough guaranteed to get your toes tapping.
Highlights included Colin's stunning version of Nobody's Child, and a fine a cappella Devil Or Angel, a superb showcase for the Tornados' great voices. In fact, it was a pleasure to watch such a relaxed and experienced band delight a packed house.
It is a return to Blackpool for the Tornados, who have been touring with Halfway To Paradise and Colin for five years, and their Blackpool dates bring their UK tour to a close.
As Colin sang, It's Only Make Believe, but if you like Fury's music it's a show definitely worth catching.
Halfway to Paradise runs Sunday evenings at The Grand until September 23. For more details phone the box office on 290190.
