SHOPPERS over the age of 60 are being encouraged to see the light and help to save the planet from destruction.
Visitors to Bury's flea market can pick up a free energy-saving light bulb as part of a council drive to boost energy efficiency and awareness. The local authority is handing out 1,000 light bulbs and giving free advice on the market next Wednesday (Sep 5). The bulbs have been donated by Norweb Energi.
Councillor Julie Higson, Bury's LA21 spokesman, said: "There are a lot of very simple improvements that people can make in their homes which will save them money and help to protect their environment.
"By saving energy, people are helping to reduce emissions of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, a major cause of global climate change.
"Each year, householders contribute to billions of pounds worth of wasted energy. Making a few minor changes in the home can make all the difference."
Those aged 60 plus are advised to get there early before supplies of the bulbs run out.
