A SIGN alerting motorists on the M65 to the junction for the Burnley Asda store could be removed by Pendle Council.
Members of the Brierfield and Reedley Committee will be asked to consider appropriate action at their meeting next week in regards to the 'Asda Next Junction' sign, which has been put up in a field near Holme End Farm.
A complaint about the sign was submitted to the council on July 4 and a site visit was carried out on July 25.
The sign, which is brown with cream lettering, is close to the Greenhead Lane Motorway Bridge and is held up by two steel posts.
Pendle Council planning manager Andy Wiggett said: "While comments have been sought from County Highways, and will be reported at the meeting, in my view the sign acts as an unnecessary distraction to passing motorists and it does not allow for the safe use of the M65 motorway.
"If no action is taken this would set an undesirable precedent and would make it difficult for the council to resist other signs, for example, for Morrisons, Netto and Kwik Save, in fields along the M65 motorway.
"I recommend that legal action be taken in the interests of consistency, amenity and public safety."
