FIVE candidates are planning to fight it out next month in the Brunswick by-election following the death of Blackpool Borough Council leader George Bancroft.
Hoping to take the former Labour seat on September 13 are:
Steven Bate (Liberal Democrat)
Kenneth Coups (Blackpool Ist Alliance)
Barry Creswell (Labour)
Andrew Stansfield (Conservative)
Charles Thomas (Independent)
Coun Bancroft died in July aged 66 after a long illness.
Coun Roy Fisher stepped in as acting council leader and held a Blackpool borough council meeting yesterday (Wednesday) which was previously adjourned due to the sudden news of Mr Bancroft's death. Coun Eddie Collett has been elected his deputy.
Voters from Brunswick Ward are called to St Thomas' parish centre on Caunce Street or St Kentigan's parish committee rooms at St Kentigan's church on Newton Drive from 8am to 9pm.
Postal votes will now be accepted without a signature from a third party and the closing date is September 5. For any election queries call 477160/477161.
