RESIDENTS of Stacksteads are complaining that for months litter bins on lamp posts on the main road have been in a state of disrepair.
Problems areas are outside the Farholme Tavern, Something Fishy fish and chip shop and at Toll Bar.
Locals say the bins are hanging from the posts with litter spilling out and that the bins themselves are not large enough to deal with the amount of litter generated.
Despite requests for larger ones, nothing has happened.
Local councillor Michael McShea met with acting chief planning officer John Cowpe to discuss the problem. A suggestion was made that wheelie bins could be attached to the lamp posts but a trader dismissed that suggestion as unworkable.
Coun McShea has called for consultation with the residents and shopkeepers before any action is taken.
