BLACKBURN YMCA is looking for volunteers to join its board of management and help develop its work with young people.

The YMCA has been working in Blackburn for more than 40 years and is currently re-evaluating its work to ensure it is meeting the needs of young people and their families in Blackburn.

The Christian charity already runs youth and community activities including youth clubs and one of the few Dads and Lads schemes in the country -- where fathers and sons can take part in activities such as climbing and football, to encourage them to spend more time with each other and strengthen their relationship.

The YMCA also currently has the only sports facilities in the Preston New Road area of Blackburn, including climbing walls unique to Blackburn and the North West.

The new manager of Blackburn YMCA, Ian Saddler, is keen to build up a team of committed volunteers who can help drive the work forward.

He said: "For many years the YMCA has played an important part in supporting young people in Blackburn. To ensure that this work continues and to develop new initiatives in response to local needs, we need people with a real interest in making a difference in their local community who are willing to volunteer just a few hours a month."

For information contact Mr Saddler on 01254 51009 between 9.30am and 3pm.
