IWOULD like to say how much I enjoyed the Bank Holiday Fiesta held in Blackburn. Congratulations, too, must go to Councillor Ashley Whalley and his colleague, Pam Baxter, from the council's technical services department, for putting in many long hours both before and during the holiday weekend.
It was great to see some good homegrown talent, too. Local band Dust Fly were in particularly good form on the Saturday evening. The salsa, side stalls and the car booters brought a dash of colour and energy back to the town.
The crowds turned out in their thousands to see the parade on King William Street and gave the participants a real Blackburn welcome en route.
It was also good to know that people had travelled from around the county to be in Blackburn for the celebrations. Let us hope that the regeneration of our town will continue with more fun events.
I am particularly looking forward to next year, when Church Street will be added to similar activities, when pedestrianisation will increase local shoppers and out-of-town visitors three-fold.
