APPRENTICE mechanic Stephen Ryder damaged a car as he staggered home after a 12-pint birthday celebration.
Blackburn magistrates ordered him to pay £150 compensation after he knocked the electric wing mirror off a car parked outside Blackburn library.
Ryder, 18, of Brunel Walk, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £55 costs as well as the compensation.
Michael Blacklidge, defending, said Ryder had been out celebrating a friend's birthday and had drunk far more than he was used to.
The initial claim for compensation was £250 and Mr Blacklidge said his client found it hard to believe it would cost that much.
"He believes the estimate is on the top side," said Mr Blacklidge.
