TWO men have appeared in court today charged with the abduction of a five-year-old girl in Darwen on Sunday.
Blackburn magistrates heard that the girl was found in the home of one of the men as a neighbour raised the alarm.
And the court was told that both men should be remanded to addresses out of the area for their own protection.
Rudolph Baker, 55, of Ivinson Road, Darwen, and Alan John Hinton, 51, of Holden Fold, Darwen, are are jointly charged with detaining the child out of the protection of her father.
Richard Prew, defending Baker, asked the magistrates to consider bailing his clients to a hostel out of the area.
"There is considerable public feeling in the Darwen area, particularly among the family of the little girl concerned."
Ian Holland, defending Hinton, said his client could offer an address out of the immediate area.
The application was being considered today.
