RESIDENTS are being urged to get switched on about whether their electric blankets might be dangerous.
For electric blanket testing sessions are being held in Bury and Radcliffe later this month.
The campaign comes at a time when there are hundreds of fires each year involving such blankets.
Local authorities in Greater Manchester, together with agencies such as Age Concern, the Fire Service and Health Promotions, are involved in the testing.
People can make an appointment to bring their electric blankets along for testing by a qualified electrician and results will be given immediatley.
It might be possible for minor repairs, such as fuses and plugs, to be carried out by the electrician free of charge.
Since it is anticipated there will be a big demand for the service, it is strongly recommended appointments are made for testing in advance by telephoning the number below.
The testing will be held at St John's Social Centre in Parkinson Street, Bury, on September 21 and at Radcliffe Civic Suite on September 22. The number to ring for appointments is 253 5566 or 253 5578.
