A NEW headteacher has arrived at St Joseph's Primary School in Darwen to mark the start the school year.
Tony Pearson, from Barrowford, was appointed to the role following the retirement of Susan Jackson, who packed away her marking pen for good in July.
Miss Jackson had been at the school for well over 20 years and was thrown a retirement party on her last day of work.
School governor Paul Bassett said: "It was a shame to see Susan go after all of her hard working years at the school.
"She will be a tough act to follow but I am sure that Mr Pearson will do a good job and do the school proud."
Mr Pearson, began his duties on Saturday, September 1, to prepare for the return of the children yesterday.
Mr Pearson said: "My first day has gone really well and all the staff and pupils have made me feel very welcome.
"The children are all lovely to teach and even though I am a headteacher I will still be involved with class room activities as well as office duties."
Mr Pearson has been deputy headteacher at St Mary's Primary School in Haslingden for the past five years but is looking forward to his new role.
Mr Pearson added: "It will definitely be a challenge for me to come from deputy to headteacher but I am prepared for the challenge and will enjoy it at the same time."
