JUDITH Moss (Letters, August 28) lists various Blackburn buildings which are 'wonderful gems.' But how do we treat our heritage?
The Old Town Hall was swamped by the new town hall which, within a couple of decades, started to fall apart.
The Cotton Exchange is scarred for life by cinema frontage. The old technical college has the 'carbuncle' Waves on its doorstep.
The Cathedral with a tatty telephone exchange in its garden now has 'disco lights.'
One building 6-- and the only one in my opinion -- worthy of a second glance is the Postal Order in Darwen Street (the old head post office). It is still a treat to look at, thanks to Wetherspoons.
As for the Victorian cobbles being dug up at one end of Church Street, I am pleased to note that Elizabethan ones are being laid at the other end.
Let us hope they last as long as the originals.
Has Ms Moss taken a look at the state of the block paving in Ainsworth Street that the council has had several attempts at putting right without success to date?
Proud of Blackburn? I don't think so. But I dare say it's no worse than some other towns.
