A PRESTON care charity is aiming to squeeze into the record books by successfully completing a fruity fund-raising event.
Staff at Sue Ryder Care, based in Cuerden Hall, Bamber Bridge, are hoping to smash the Guinness World Record for the most number of people involved in a 'pass the orange' game, on Sunday, September 16.
The record attempt involves passing an orange, tucked under the chin of one person, to the chin of another. The current record stands at 92 people, and was set live on television's This Morning with former presenters Richard and Judy.
Helen Jocelyn, fund-raising officer for Sue Ryder Care, said: "The idea came to me while I was watching the world record attempts on Big Brother. I thought, if Bubble can do it, so can we!
"I set about trying to find a record for us to break and the pass the orange game sounded like great fun and one that lots of people could get involved with."
To be successful in their record attempt, and beat the Richard and Judy record breakers, the Sue Ryder contenders must have their efforts monitored by independent observers. Proof of their record will then be sent off to the Guinness Book of Records who will decide if their marathon orange pass has set a new world record.
Helen Jocelyn said: "As well as all the fun of taking part in the record challenge, there will also be a barbecue and entertainment. Everyone is welcome to join in or just to come and show support. We might not break the record, but we can guarantee everyone has a really good laugh in trying.
"If everybody turns up then we should be fine. Anyone is welcome -- the more the merrier -- and people can just turn up on the day if they like."
All the money raised will go toward providing care for local people with life-threatening illnesses.
