LANCASTER MP Hilton Dawson has flown out to Angola as part of his crusade to campaign for children's rights.
The African country is considered by UNICEF to be one of the "worst places on earth to be a child" following 30 years of civil war, poverty and an AIDS epidemic.
The local MP was invited on the fact finding mission as part of the United Nations Childrens Fund in his capacity as Parliamentary Ambassador for UNICEF.
This will be the third time Hilton has visited relief projects abroad and he will see first-hand programmes of immunisation, nutrition, AIDS awareness, the provision of water and sanitation, access to education for the 50 per cent of children who have no school, protection from conscription as soldiers and landmines awareness. It is estimated that there are six landmines for every child.
Hilton said: "This is my third visit and once again my role will be to tell Government and potential donors what I've seen and to seek as much help as possible for people working in dangerous working in dangerous and difficult circumstances."
