TWO 'flying squad' type emergency vehicles based in St Helens are helping to keep Mersey Regional Ambulance Service as the top performing North West ambulance trust.
Rapid Response Vehicles are equipped with oxygen, medication, fluids, defibrillators, a first aid bag, blankets and maternity kits enabling them to respond to any type of call.
The vehicles were brought on-line just over a year ago to respond to life-threatening calls within the St Helens area.
Staffed by polo paramedics, the Volvo 2.5 turbo diesel estate patrols particular routes and can often be at the scene of an incident vital minutes before the nearest ambulance. This means that the paramedics can begin to try and stabilise the patient while the ambulance is on its way, helping to save even more lives.
