A SCHIZOPHRENIC who terrified a young woman in a takeaway has been sentenced to a two-year Community Rehabilitation Order by Bolton Crown Court.
On a previous occasion, a CCTV recording of the incident was shown in court, depicting the assistant screaming in terror.
Mistaken
The court heard Michael Leonard, of Selwyn Street, Leigh, had mistakenly thought he was well enough to stop taking medication to treat his schizophrenia.
As a result, on February 6, Leonard rushed into a takeaway and hurled a piece of wood over the counter. No-one was hurt.
Leonard appeared for sentencing at Bolton Crown Court on a charge of affray.
Rehabilitation
Judge William Morris sentenced Leonard to the rehabilitation order, under which he will be supervised by a probation officer.
The court heard Leonard was also the subject of a care package under the Mental Health Act, and is under the supervision of a community psychiatric nurse.
The court heard Leonard was now taking his medication and was perfectly well.
