BURNLEY Scouts and Guides Northern Thunder Drum and Bugle Corps is celebrating its best competition wins in 55 years.
The band picked up eight trophies at events in Warrington and Batley, including their first supreme championship since their first contest in 1952.
The Corps, were first in drill, display, musical effect and percussion at Warrington while field commander Laura Western also took a top placing at the competition. At Batley the next day the Corps came first in display and runner-up in the premier class, missing a double by only five points. The results have lifted the Burnley band into third place in the premier division and has already qualified them for the national finals at Birmingham on October 14.
The Corps is still looking for sponsors and new members for next year, when current players go to university. Anyone interested can contact manager Tom Bradshaw on 01282 430260.
