RESIDENTS in Pendle are being asked to attend a series of public meetings to give their views about community safety.
The meetings have been organised by Pendle Community Safety Partnership which must produce a Crime Reduction Strategy for the borough by April 2002.
Under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, the council has to produce a Crime Reduction Strategy every three years.
Representatives from both the partnership and Lancashire Police will attend the meetings.
They will begin at 7pm on the following days:
Wednesday, September 19 at Barnoldswick Civic Hall
Wednesday, September 26 at Barrowford Civic Hall
Thursday, September 27 at Nelson Town Hall
Monday, October 1 at Brierfield Community Centre
Wednesday, October 3 at Colne Town Hall
Keith Lister, the partnership's co-ordinator, said: "We want people to come and give us their views on issues to do with community safety and crime. These ideas will form part of the process in producing a Crime Reduction Strategy for the Borough. We will look at people's perceptions and ideas on crime, examine the crime statistics and get information from other agencies and see how they all compare.
"We will also be looking at what we did last time for the 1999/2002 strategy and seeing if anything arises that didn't come up last time."
