YOUNGSTERS in Mellor are getting breakfast for brainpower as part of a new early morning scheme.
The breakfast club, in Mellor village hall, already caters for 18 local school children from 7.30am to 8.30am, Monday to Friday.
The children are given a choice of cereal, yoghurt, toast, fruit juice and milk before being escorted on a walking bus to nearby Mellor St Mary's CE Primary School, in Brundhurst Fold, or by public transport to St Leonard's CE Primary School in Langho, and St Mary's RC Primary School in Osbaldeston.
Organiser Sam Salvato explained: "The chairman of Mellor Pre-School sent out a letter to all parents in the area, asking if they required the service and we have had a positive response since we opened on Tuesday.
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we provide a healthy option for the youngsters."
The scheme, twinned with an after-school club at St Leonard's School, is funded by the New Opportunities programme.
