BLACKPOOL Scorpions included former Bath, Bristol and Fylde prop Sam Clark, along with university student scrum half Jon Green in their line-up at Woolston as they went on a 10-try romp in Warrington.
The Scorpions started slowly and went 6-0 down when Woolston scored a converted try, but soon equalised when Simon Pritchard was the first to get to a Dave Tanner kick downfield and he passed to the supporting Shaun Towell who scored under the posts.
Then a move involving Tanner and Jon Green ended with Ben Simpson going over. Shortly after, Carl Briscoe forced his way over after a tap penalty had been awarded to the Scorpions and, with Chris Pearson converting all three tries, the Scorpions led 18-6.
From the restart Woolston kicked straight into touch and from the resulting possession Dave Tanner scored.
Scorpions repeated an earlier move when Tanner kicked downfield and Pritchard was again first to the ball to touch down. Pearson converted to make it 28-6 at half-time.
Jon Green was having an impressive game at scrum half and it was he who scored next when he was first to react to a Gareth Chadwick grubber kick to the posts.
Then Chris Pearson made a 30-metre break and passed to the supporting Simon Pritchard who crossed for his second try to make the score 38-6.
With such a big lead the Scorpions relaxed and allowed their opponents to score two tries in 10 minutes to pull the score back to 38-16, but they soon got back into their rhythm and Matt Millward scored a well-deserved try after supporting a Carl Briscoe run.
The next try was the best of the match when Ben Simpson combined with Chris Pearson on an 80-metre run, ending with Pearson crossing the line.
Young Luke Valente finished off the scoring when he sold a dummy and forced his way over to give the Scorpions an emphatic victory.
Scorpions' "A" team went down 56-12 against Latchford Albion who are tipped to win the division.
Scorpions fielded six new players and struggled to find any rhythm in the first half. They were much improved in the second half and their try scorers were Paul Harte, Tony Green and Tom Lavelle.
RESULT: Woolston Rovers 16 Blackpool Scorpions 54
