PLANS for more roadworks in Rawtenstall town centre, less that three months after repair works caused major disruption to local traders, have been called 'crazy' by the Rawtenstall Chamber of Commerce.
Repair works to a culvert in Bank Street, which lasted 14 weeks, were completed only two weeks ago and some traders claimed that takings had dropped by 50 per cent.
The Chamber of Commerce are asking United Utilities to delay the latest works to refurbish the water mains in BankStreet until the New Year. The work is due to start on September 24 and be completed by October 28.
Chamber secretary Keith Pilkington said: "The work will affect all traders. Our main objection is that until two weeks ago the street was closed because of works to repair a culvert. It has only just returned to normal and they want to dig it up again."
United Utilities has promised to visit businesses in Bank Street to discuss the project and address any concerns the traders may have.
