ANTHONY Keenan shot a three over par 73 in the second round of the Daily Telegraph-Center Parcs Junior Golf Championships at Sea Island, Georgia yesterday to finish joint eighth of the 12 players.

The Burnley player had shot what he considered a disappointing first round of 77 on Wednesday but came back stronger yesterday.

It put his overall total to 10 over par - last year's winner David Mallett won the title in Georgia with a score of six over par - while this year's winner Michael Nestor, from Nottingham, became boys champion with a tremendous one under par 139.

Nestor followed up his first round of 68 with a 71 to finish with a three-shot margin over Huntley Hall's Michael Skelton.

But it was still a good outcome for 18-year-old Keenan who qualified for the prestigious competition after shooting a six-under-par 66 at the Blackburn Junior Open last month.

Anthony began as just one of the 40,000 other people to enter the event but it was a magnificent achievement to reach the final.

"I haven't played well but I have enjoyed myself," he said from Georgia.

"I did not get off to as good a start yesterday as I would have liked and was two over for quite a while but went to three over on the 11th.

"On the 16th I carved a drive miles right although I managed to get on the green but I three-putted to go four over.

"Then I birdied the last two to finish three over.

"It is a better score than yesterday but I do not think I played any better. So I am disappointed with the score but I think we have a worthy winner in Michael Nestor."

The Daily Telegraph competition is one of the most sought after junior titles and has been previously won by European Tour players Justin Rose and Andrew Coltart.

"I wouldn't have changed anything in my game, though," continued Keenan. "If you don't do well you cannot really do anything about it.

"I went on the driving range yesterday morning but I couldn't sort it out.

"I was just pleased to be here."

He was going to a gala dinner last night and will return home today.

Heavy rain soon after the start of play forced a suspension of the second round of the Muermans Real Estate Challenge Open for more three hours at Burggolf Herkenbosch in Holland -- but Clitheroe's Paul Dwyer still prospered.

Dwyer signed for 64 for the second round, which leaves him on five-under 135 alongside Miles Tunnicliff, who carded 67.

Italy's Alberto Binaghi produced nine birdies in his 63 and leads with a 10 under par 130, but the weather meant that only half the field finished their rounds before darkness fell and the rest were to resume this morning.
